Adams Park: This was the previous home site of John Quincy Adams, a distant relative of the United States Presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams. The home was constructed in 1876, shortly after the Adams came to Wheaton. He was a member of the Chicago Board of Trade and benefactor for the first gymnasium at Wheaton College. In 1942, Adam's daughter, Katharine Adams Wells left the property to the City of Wheaton with the stipulation that the house be demolished and the land be converted into a park.
Landscape architect Annette Hoyt Flanders designed the new city park in the 1940s. Since then Anthony Tyznik, Yvonne Burt-Simpson, and the City of Wheaton have made numerous alterations to the park while maintaining its serene beauty. The fountain dates from 1885 and has been restored by local sculptor John Slavik after vandals damaged the fountain's statues in 1993. Wheaton residents, young and old alike, continue to enjoy the tranquility of Adams Park.
